Magnesium Oxide
Magnesium oxide is a high elemental magnesium form with relatively low absorption and strong osmotic activity.
Magnesium
Magnesium oxide is defined by density.
It contains a high proportion of elemental magnesium by weight,
but its absorption profile is limited.
At a high level, evaluation comes down to three signals:
- Elemental content vs absorption — high theoretical content, low effective uptake
- Solubility — limited dissolution in physiological conditions
- Osmotic effect — strong impact on intestinal water balance
Oxide often appears as a cost-efficient source of magnesium.
Its presence can inflate label numbers without proportionally increasing usable intake.
Quantity does not equal availability.
Form determines what is actually delivered.
